Tarot 101 – What You Need to Know

First, let me start off by explaining that I am no tarot reading guru! But, one of the many reasons why I LOVE tarot, is because it is so accessible to everyone.

No matter where you are in your tarot exploration … you can enjoy a positive experience and receive valuable information from the cards.

Over the past few years I have really developed an appreciation for this spiritual resource and it’s my hope that after reading this post, you will give it a try, too!

So, what makes tarot so great?

To put it simply, reading tarot helps us communicate with the deepest parts of ourselves and it guides us to get in touch with our intuitive voice.

And what could be better than that?!

When we go to the cards, we open ourselves up to the Universe (God, Higher Source, Love Energy … whatever you wan to call it!). We are expanding our vibrational energy and allowing space for new information and “downloads” to flow through us.

And here is the thing – the cards are a fantastic tool to guide you to these universal messages, but the cool thing, you ALREADY have all the answers buried deeply inside of you.

Yep, it’s true!

The reason we so often feel out of touch with our emotions and our spiritual selves is because the stress/commotion of everyday life overpowers the intuitive messages our body is trying to send us.

Going to the cards is a way to quiet the mind, tune-in to the body, and open up to some powerful messages you otherwise might be missing.

Now, LET’S BUST SOME MYTHS…

A common fear that comes up around tarot is the idea of the cards “reading your future,” but this is far from the truth.

The cards aren’t going to magically see into your future or predict anything scary, after-all, you’re the co-creator of your life. Your life will inevitably encounter twists and turns as you take aligned action and make choices along your path.

In addition, there is no such thing as a “bad” tarot card. Each pull will help guide you towards the best answer for YOU.

This may mean you need to address some of pieces of you that you sometimes avoid, but that is never a bad thing, now is it? 😉

Finally, tarot does not have to conflict with your other religious or spiritual beliefs. It’s all encompassing!

It’s all about opening up and trusting something bigger than yourself. You can call on your angels, your spirit guides, or just on good juju and energy.

And on that note…

Tarot is for everyone

What I love most about tarot is literally anyone as the ability to read cards. It just takes some practice learning how to get in touch with your intuition, but that’s the fun part.

So, how can you get started?

The best thing to do is get some exposure! Maybe that means scheduling a reading with someone your trust, or jumping in and purchasing your very first deck.

Here are my 3 favorite decks:

Start with this:

  • Set a positive intention for your day (and light some palo santo if you really want to set the mood!)

  • Ask an open ended question such as – “What do I need to know as I head into my day?”

  • Shuffle the deck and pull one card.

  • Look at the picture, internalize it, and then read the cards description.

  • What is the card speaking to you? What emotions are coming up for you? Are you receiving any intuitive hits? 🙂

  • Take a moment to journal what comes up for you, or, create a special mantra to repeat to yourself throughout the day <3

Tarot is one of my favorite ways to reconnect with my internal wisdom, to shut-off all the noise in my brain, and to open up to something GREATER.

All in all, the cards are going to bring to light a concept or theme in your life that needs some attention…and this is a beautiful thing!

Now, I would love to hear YOUR experience 🙂 Have you tried tarot before? If not, are you interested in exploring? Let me know below!
