It seems like everyone is talking about the importance of balancing your hormones — but what in the world does that really mean?
To put it simply, when your body is functioning optimally, all of your hormones work together, to help you feel like the goddess you are!
You feel full of energy, your skin becomes clearer, your brain feels sharp, and PMS … what’s that?!
Believe it or not, the body is designed to feel GOOD and energized.
But, due to the nature of our perfectly-tuned endocrine system, if one hormone becomes out of whack, it can affect everything.
That is why you might notice that your period is all messed up, your mood/energy levels are all over the place, AND you’re having tummy troubles. It can sometimes feel like you’re being hit with everything at once! And it’s because you are…
Everything in our body is RELATED, which is why the standard “put out individual flames” model of healthcare doesn’t work when it comes to women’s hormonal health.
Addressing one specific area of the body might help alleviate symptoms in the short term, but it totally ignores the fact that our entire body works together in a very delicate and sensitive dance.
We must look at all the pieces and parts of the endocrine system to start feeling truly vibrant and like our goddess-selves again!

So, the big question arises — how in the world do we get our bodies back in a balance again?!
The three most important things you can do to support your hormonal health is as follows:
-
Support Your Liver
-
Clear Out & Heal the Gut
-
Support Your Stress
…and I am going to break each of these areas down for you and give you some very tangible and practical tools you can start implementing right now to start feeling better.
Support Your Liver
Your liver is one of the most important organs for detoxing and helping to eliminate excess hormones (like estrogen!) from the body.
Unfortunately, our liver is under A TON of stress due to the toxins in our diets, our environment, and our beauty/cleaning products.
This means, your liver is struggling to detox the hormonal burdens on your body because it has so many OTHER toxins to worry about. Silly modern society!
Good thing we can help support this amazing organ and get it doing it’s job successfully again 😉
HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR LIVER:
-
Eat ALL the cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts…) They help the liver produce important detoxing enzymes.
-
Enjoy lots of leafy greens in your diet, they help protect the liver so it can do it’s job.
-
Drink a turmeric latte – the antioxidants help heal the liver.
-
Get lots of whole and quality protein to support your detox pathways.
Clear out & Heal the gut
You all KNOW I am passionate about gut health, and for good reason — our gut literally runs the show!
This incredible organ works in tandem with the liver (which gets toxins ready for elimination :)) and then the gut makes MOVES, literally, to get all of the waste OUT of the body.
The gut is also home to your microbiome, which is the combination of the “good” (and bad) bugs in your belly. When this delicate balance of bacteria is off, you experience a host of symptoms.
From the obvious bloating and upset stomach to poor immunity and anxiety/depression … the gut is in charge of a lot.
And for the purposes of this blog post, it is ALSO crucial in keeping your hormones balanced. Without a balanced gut, your body will not eliminate the built up hormones in your system and feeling better will be almost impossible!
Before we dive into supporting the gut, I want you to remember that we can nourish and love up this organ in about 28-days. So, the tips below don’t have to seem like a life-long burden, but more of a short labor of love! 🙂
HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR GUT:
-
Eliminate inflammatory foods and all food sensitivities for at least 28 days. You can do this by utilizing my free gut-reboot!
-
Enjoy a cup of bone broth in the morning to heal the gut lining.
-
Eat mindfully by chewing your food until it is liquid before swallowing (it’s difficult!)
-
Pay attention to hunger cues and work to eat only when hunger.
-
Drink a glass of hot lemon water first thing in the morning.
-
Repopulate your gut with quality probiotics.
support your Stress
Yes I know, you keep hearing this from me., but it is SO important!
Our bodies are living in a state of evolutionary mismatch, which means we haven’t genetically caught up to the modern environment we now live in.
Sure, our “minds” understand what is a real threat and what isn’t … but our body? Not so much.
Being stuck in traffic or checking a stressful work email triggers the SAME stress response in the body as, say, being changed by a tiger.
Blame our ancestors, not the messenger!!
When your body is working on overdrive to manage stress, it turns OFF “non-important” functions such as reproduction (AKA our sex hormones). Elevated cortisol due to chronic stress directly affects our progesterone production. Commonly depleting our progesterone levels and contributing to what many of us know as estrogen dominance.
Not only that, but our stress/adrenal health play a huge role in the health of our thyroid. When the thyroid isn’t producing enough (or is producing too much) of the necessary hormones, you guessed it — we experience serious mental and physical complications.
It can be really hard to eliminate stress from your life completely, but there a few really tangible steps you can take…
HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR STRESS LEVELS:
-
Supplement with B-Vitamins (this vitamin is depleted during high-times of stress).
-
Supplement with Magnesium to help your body relax and restore after a stressful day.
-
Prioritize deep breathing or meditation in the morning. Lower your “stress coffee-cup,” so to speak, before it overflows from the day’s events.
-
Plan MOVEMENT into your schedule. Moving your body (but not over exerting with high-intensity or intense cardio) helps to release stress from the body. It also helps you to move emotions through the body which is energetically stress relieving.
And there you have it.
